The people at opendemocracy wrote a very interesting article on civil resistance, summarizing effective nonviolent protests of the last 70 years and looking at the underlying principles of planning, discipline and unity as factors of the success.

Summarizing one of the main practical experiences of all nonviolent action, Merriman writes

When people do not obey, then presidents, mayors, CEOs, generals, and other “power holders” can no longer rule with unchecked power.

The seminar in Albania ended a few weeks ago and I have finally found the time to report on its progress – much more detailed minutes are also already in preparation, as the no-more-war team continues to work as well towards 2011 ;)

About 20 people from Albania, Austria, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Macedonia, Spain, and Switzerland met in Durres[singlepic id=107 w=120 h=200 float=left] for about a week to learn and exchange about nonviolence, develop project ideas for 2011 and generally get to know Albania and enjoy the time together in pure SCI spirit.

Goran and Georg, the main trainers met in advance with the preparation-team, lots of supportive people from Projekte Vullnetare Nderkombetare, the local[singlepic id=91 w=200 h=120 float=right] SCI organisation in Tirana to prepare last minute stuff and draft the detailed program for the week. And then basically the training already begun, situated in a hotel directly at the beach of Durres, sunshine filling all the days :)
