The ‘Lead Peace’ – seminar in Stockholm over Easter was very refreshing and interesting. For those of you who would have liked to go but were not able to (there were lots at least three times more applications than places), here a short report about topics and some pictures:

First a short summary again of the cycle creating the four steps in practicing nonviolent communication – which was shortly introduced in the seminar again and practiced during the whole training:

1. Observation

Concentrate on specific behaviours instead of inferring what others intend. Be as specific as possible and only relate to what you observed oposed to judgements and evaluations. Judgements and evaluations can easily block your empathy and the empathy of others (instead it is more likely they will hear criticism) if not handled with care and awareness. View full article »

While having participants from Algeria, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Great Britain and Croatia – we still have a few places left for our second round of participants selection (due at the start of May) – so if you are interested and have not had the time to apply yet – find the details here: http://www.no-more-war.net/2011/03/04/seminar-for-no-more-war/

If you have need for Visa and thus need an answer as soon as possible – please get in contact with John Myers from SCI Germany as soon as possible, as time is short for those buereaucratic processes.

Okay, one short post – next week finally comes a longer one again – then on the wonderful topic of moral courage :)

For now, I want you to concentrate on faces – at least shortly – maybe your own but can be someone elses – now, do you think that something would look better if something was different? No, yes, maybe?

A lot of people would say yes. One reason for that – you guessed correctly, cultural violence – the ever visible pictures of people we label beautiful change our perception of ourselfs and others as well. There is a whole industry around that topic, from software for beautifying faces to completely rebuilding human anatomy from scratch (okay, missing some parts here and there)… View full article »

The SCI branch in Sweden has organized again a wonderful seminar dealing with nonviolent communication – this year with a special focus on group leading (but also for people who did not participate in the seminar last year). This seminar is going to be under the no-more-war umbrella of SCI (and not only because I am going to participate ;) but because it fits well into the international strategic plan and our own aims :D ). The no-more-war team is still working on creating an even more awesome toolkit and other helpful stuff for no-more-war actions in 2011!

There is still about 20 places free so if you do not have a really good reason to avoid this seminar, I suggest you better write an application :D

Here the details from the facebook call for participants:

“There is no way to peace – peace is the way, they say.

So what is peace and how do we “do” peace – as human beings and – as we will focus on during this training – as leaders?

How do we for example help a group to reach their goals? How can we support the group to handle conflicts? How do we manage our inner judgements at the same time as we are present with the group? How do we take care of our fears around leading and being a leader?

Topic of this week is something I have not written before about, so it is high time, an article is presented to you on this one. This week I am writing about on of the most widely used categories for human people -

Gender

It is usually thought of to come in two variants. Each human being is either man or woman. This is called gender binary and means, that there exist exactly two categories for gender – Female and Male – and that everybody is supposed to be one or the other.

Here a small collection of pictures from the seminar in Albania for you all to enjoy :)

The seminar in Albania ended a few weeks ago and I have finally found the time to report on its progress – much more detailed minutes are also already in preparation, as the no-more-war team continues to work as well towards 2011 ;)

But for once, back into the past! daily program

About 20 people from Albania, Austria, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Macedonia, Spain, and Switzerland met in Durres KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA  for about a week to learn and exchange about nonviolence, develop project ideas for 2011 and generally get to know Albania and enjoy the time together in pure SCI spirit.

Goran and Georg, the main trainers met in advance with the preparation-team, lots of supportive people from Projekte Vullnetare Nderkombetare, the local IMG_8756  SCI organisation in Tirana to prepare last minute stuff and draft the detailed program for the week. And then basically the training already begun, situated in a hotel directly at the beach of Durres, sunshine filling all the days :)
