Hi,
I just came across this site and that sounds really great.
I am 18 and I am from Germany and Austria - which is difficult to say at the moment ;-)
So are there any workcamps planned for 2012?
Greetings
Rebekka

I find the author lacking any mentioning of the LCCs while getting lost in discussions about why Russia is mirroring the position of the US in Yemen, which even if it were true, would not describe what is going on in Syria, as the title claimed.

I mean come on, if he comes so far as quoting the SNC, why not go to where a large amount of work is being done in Syria by at least mentioning the local coordination committees, which are organising most of the demonstrations and resistance (hiding fugitives and deserters, organizing meeting places, establishing communication between groups).

And there, actually, is something you can really do: Support the LCCs, for example by donating to adopt a revolution, a German NGO, a sub-group of about:change - there you can donate money which will support selected LCCs directly. Most of the page is in German except for this one: https://www.adoptrevolution.org/english/

If the world were only watching, the Syrian government would not get any weapons, but Russia delivered them. If the world were only watching, US would not try to lobby for a military intervention (and a 'humanitarian' protection no-fly-zone is always a military intervention with losses among civilians, there I do agree with the author).

While this author gasps at how the world seems to be doing nothing (while it is), others written about how to do something, which I personally prefer to read. Erica Chenoweth wrote a very interesting article on 13 things you can do right now to support the nonviolent civil uprising in Syria, seven of these you can do within an international context! http://rationalinsurgent.wordpress.com/2011/12/10/13-ways-to-support-the-syrian-opposition-right-now/

[Edit] Okay, that probably is bit harsh, analyzing the situation is an important step in doing something, but I feel the author is concentrating on the US more than on Syria and I guess that is what is disappointing me [/Edit]

By the way, you did not write, what thoughts the article provoked for you, though you started with that :)

P.S.:
The post does not have a category and there is no picture, plus there is no pagebreak so it takes a lot of space on the front page - do you read my mails, Matteo? I told you about this two times now.

And just having a link instead of a complete copy would have been better for reading, since the article looks much more readable on the original page.

see the catholic had confession... you confess and you were free... (of course they charge money hahahahaa) see if we have a system where we could all CONFESS each other all mistakes without blaming each other...

like they did in south africa you were free as long as you said all you have done in front of the TRUTH TRIBUNAL... as long you are show what you did none can find you guilty.

In italy we say "The only one that doesn't make mistakes he is the one that does nothing!"
so if you do you will make mistakes... let's hope in 2012 to make many mistakes... then we can all sit calmly around a table and try to learn as much as possible from all the mistakes.

When the video issue will be closed like it seems finally at the next meeting we can sit down and see all the mistake WE make together...

it's like when the treasure present the final budget the moment it's approved the WHOLE SCI is repsonsible for it, not the treasure anymore... so the moment we approved the video is not any single responsability but we make our own... and then we move away from individual mistake's ownership

i totaly agree with you john... so let's close the project so next time we meet we can inaliza where WE all failed. (by WE i mean every single one of uf) i really think the same way we try to share success, we should try hard to share the mistakes. I now it's easier to jump on the winning wagon, but then you go nowhere... in the no more war i will ask always for a topic in the agenda for ADMITING mistake, but in a trustworhy and understanding enviroment. As machbeth said "if we give what everybody deserve no-one will skip the whip!"

p.s.
in the same way i admit that as a trainer i did not get to be accepted by 100% of the partecipants

The main point of this is that you have to create an atmosphere in which admitting failure is not used by others as an opportunity for ridicule, or else derogatory remarks towards the person admitting failure, because no one likes to be made a fool of. So it is mainly a question of the internal organisation culture, but also of course a willingness on behalf of external donors to accept honest confession of a project's failure, in the underrstanding that the organisation has learned from its misakes and will not repeat them.
One clear example of our own failure is with the video we wanted to make of last year's No More War Campaign. We went into this project without having any clear idea of the script, the target group or the purpose of the video, and therefore it is no surprise that the project is still hanging in limbo and we are now stuck in a cul-de-sac. So, yes, let's admit it - we failed completely with that project!
